Today Jamie Eason introduces us to the single-leg deadlift using the barbell. For whatever reason, I'm drawn to any exercise that uses single legs or arms at a time. To me, you REALLY feel it. Especially with the legs. Not only am I trying to watch my form, but I'm always trying to control my balance while tightening my core. They burn, but baby they feel good!
Random thought: Can I just say, I LOVE the fact that my kids are constantly touching all over me asking me to "flex"? Nothing else in the world makes me feel better than knowing that my kids look up to me, they're proud of their mommy. As a matter of fact, something wonderful happened yesterday. as my teenage daughter and I were driving to a family birthday party, she actually asked me if I would train her. She doesn't know this, but that just made my day. Nothing can top that! This is what's it's about folks. Life style changes. I've never pushed her into working out. I don't make her eat what I eat. She's WATCHED me, and decided for herself that that is the life she wants too. Simply amazing.
Now, those of you who don't know, my husband has been deployed for over a year now. We've been able to see him a few times in the last 13 1/2 months, but we are just ready to have daddy back home with us. As good of a job I do alone, I'm nothing without him. He is the most amazing daddy and husband in the world. As a matter of fact, he is the reason I'm writing a blog. The reason I'm in the gym today. The reason why I'm in just about the healthiest shape I've ever been in in my life. Notice I said healthiest. I've been skinner...much skinner, but never healthy. I've fought eating disorders most of teens/early 20's...and still even have thoughts about resorting to that. When my husband came home for Christmas he had gained 15 or so ponds from the last time I had seen him (almost four months). He gained nothing but solid muscle. Please understand my husband was a very little guy...we've always yo-yo'd who weighed more at any given time. when we came home and I saw that he used his time away to become healthier and stronger, while I was using my time to whither away in the bed all day...it was eye opening. I wanted him for four weeks hit the gym five days a week and never missed a day. The day he left to go back to Korea, I hit the gym. I haven't missed a scheduled day since! Sometimes working out six days a week for a month straight! So, thank you Bryan. Thank you for letting me watch you and want to change for myself...just as Kelsye is doing now with me.
What's really exciting is that Bryan hasn't seen me since I've been in the gym! I'm exactly 15 pounds lights, and about 10 inches smaller! Oh...and he's gained ever MORE weight/muscle, so it's all good for the both of us! Ha! Here is what he saw last before he left:
